Africa and Mural Project Preview

1.  I really liked this power point because the pictures are in black and white so it helps show more drama.

2.
3.  This is my favorite picture because even though the beckound isn't one color, you can still tell that the cheetahs are the subject and that this is a simplicity picture.

4.  He photographs on medium-format black and white film without telephoto or zoom lenses. He uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.  "What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being."  This is what Brandt said about why he was taking these pictures.  "There is something deeply deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains of Africa - the vast green rolling plains punctuated by by the graphically perfect acacia trees."- Nick Brandt

1.  I think that a good theme we could do here at school is shoes, because it is something most people at school take seriously and it's something they take pride in when they have a really nice pair.

2.  I think that we should use both regular cameras, and phone cameras because not everyone has a camera phone and they should be able to take pictures to.

3.  I would want to put my mural in the portables because most people wouldn't think to put it all the way out there.

Academic Shoot Review

1.  It was dificult to get a simplicity picture because the walls on all the class rooms had posters and colors on them and they weren't all just one color.

2.  When I was taking these pictures, I was concentrating on getting clear pictures the most because I don't like not being able to see the subject clearly.

3.  If I could redo this assignment, I would actually look for all of the rules instead of just taking pictures at random.

4.  The things I would do the same is concentrate on taking clear pictures.

5.  I think the easiest rule to achieve is Avoiding Mergers because I understand it more now.

6.  The hardest rule to capture is Framing because you have to make sure there are things framing your subject in the picture.

7.  The rule I am still not clear on is Balance, and to learn morem, I could look up more pictures of balance and look it up on google.

Framing Academic Photo

Framing

This photo follows the rules of framing because the girl is framed by the doorway.  The subject is the girl in the center with a white shirt on doing the peace sign.  I don't think it is that clear for people so see the subject because there is a lot of distraction in the background and there are a lot of other people around her.

Balance Academic Photo

Balance

I think that this picture follows the rule of balance because there is an even amount of girls on each side and the picture doesn't look like it is about to tip over.  The subject is the girls working together on an assignment.  I think it is clear for someone to see the subject because they are in the center.

Lines Academic Photo

Lines

I think that I followed the rule of lines in this photo because of all the lines of the chairs and book shelves.  The subject is the two girls working together in a quiet environment.  I don't think it is clear for people to see what the subject is because the background is busy and the girls are to the side.  I think to have followed the rule more i should have taken the picture closer to the chairs and shelves and leave the girls out.

Rule of Thirds Academic Photo

Rule of Thirds

This photo does not follow the rule of thirds because the guy to the right looks like she is about to walk out of the picture because i did not give enough space in front of her so she looks like she still has room to walk.  The subject is the two people walking together delivering papers.  To follow the rule, I could have stood farther in front of the girl to is seems like she has room.

Merger Academic Photo

Merger

This photo does not follow the rule of avoiding mergers because the girl to the right, her head is cut off and the girl to the left, her arm is cut off.  The subject is the two girls working together to finish a task they had to do.  To make this photo follow the rule I could have taken it not o close up so that I don't cut off any body parts.

Simplicity Academic photo

Simplicity

I think that I followed the rule of Simplicity because the girl is in the middle of the photo without any distractions to take away your attention from her, the subject which is her doing her work.  I think that it is clear to people who look at this picture that she is the subject.

Academic Shoot Preview

 The Story
This photo visually tells a story because you can see the emotion on the people's face, and I think the story is a group of people coming together to help people in need.

Best Action/Emotion
I chose this photo as best action/emotion because you can see the amazement in both of the girls faces and i like how the picture is taken so that it looks like the action is stoped just for the picture.

Filling the Frame
I chose this phot as filling the frame because it is filled top to bottom with students performing this expirement.

1.  My favorite photo from the academics and community service section is "Drop the Bass" where the girl has pink paint and it is up in the air.  I like this photo because I like how the paint looks like it stopped in mid air to seem like motion stopped for the photographer tio take the picture, in this picture, I think that simplicity is the rule in place because it is a close up of the paint and there is not much to take you away from the center of the photo, the paint.

1.  I think i could take photos like these in science classrooms where there is action going on during class.

2.  I would like to go to a chemistry class because I know that is a class where they do alot of labs.

3.  I will try to look for students that are concentrating and doing interesting work to take a more eye catching photo.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos of your first 3 prompts (Red, Metal, Happy)
The most challenging thing for me was trying to find things red, metal, and happy, that arn't typical, i wanted to find somethng that no one would think of when the think of the words red, metal, and happy.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.
The thing I was thinking about the most was focusing the camera, because it had seemed to me like most of the photo's I was taking were comming out blurry and I didn't know why, so that is what i spend the most time consentrating on, trying to make the pictures I took clear and not blurry.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photograhy?
I would probably work on the rule of thirds the most because I don't like when I look at a picture and the subject is right in the middle, i think a picture is more interesting if it is off center.

4. What things would you do the same?
I would continue taking pictures of people instead of inatimate objects because I like how I can show emotion more through taking pictures of people.

5. Finally - go back and edit your blogs with the 3 photos (red, metal, happy), tell me what rules of composition (which you just learned about) did you end up actually achieving? Did you have any?

6. Are you interested in shooting those prompts again, why?
I would want to shoot these prompts again because I want to see how much farther I have gotten in taking pictures and I want to see if my point of view has changed in taking photos.

Avoiding Mergers

In this photo, there are no mergers because the background is simple and does not take the eye away from the main point of the picture.

Framing

This photo is a good example of framing because the center of the picture is framed by the roads, trees, and shadows.

Balance

The placement of the person walking, the buildings, and color help to make this photo look balanced.

Lines

In this photograph, the way the lines go around the window and aren't perfectly straight up and down makes for a more dynamic picture.

Rule of Thirds

In this photo, the photographer gave enough space in the picture for the soldier to be walking without looking like he is going to walk off the page.

Simplicity

In this photo, you can clearly tell what the photographer meant to be the main subject, which is the car because it is right in the middle, without a busy background.

Unusual and Interesting Photos

1. What is your reaction to his work?

I really like how the pictures are black and white so it makes it more dramatic.

2.  How do you think he made these photos?

I have no idea, othere than maybe rotating it in the dark room where pictures develope.

3.  Think about some buildings you have seen, which ones would be good to take a photo like this? Tell me about those buildings, where are they, could you get easy access to them?

I think the eiffel tower would be a good photo to take like this because of the shape of it and it would be easy to take because it is open to the public.

I like this photo because it is in black and white and I just love the way it looks, and because I like how the photographer made the background blurry.  It was in the portrait series category and won first place.  I think when the judges were judging this they were thinking about everything in the picture and the contrast.

I like the one on the bottom because it is such a clear picture and it makes me feel like it is a whole different world.  This was in the environmental category and got honorable mention, I think the judges were thinking about the color and lighting the most when they were judging this photo.

Three things I think a photagrapher should keep in mind when taking photos are 1, keep in mind that expressions are more powerful than words and if you can capture what people are thinking ar what they are saying that is a very useful skill, 2, make something ordinary completly different and turn it around to seem interesting, and 3, look at different angles to take the picture, it will make for a more original and interesting photo.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

The main point of this story is to tell you multiple ways you can you photoshop pictures, even if it is not ethic.
The type photoshopping is unethical because the people are not trying to make the picture look better, they are trying to remake the picture for their own personal gain.

I think this picture is unethical because the person who photshopped this picture did it to make america not look bad.
This picture is ethical because it wasn't photoshopped for anyreason othere than to fit on the magazine cover.

National Geographic Photo

I chose this photo because I like how everything in it is covered in snow and there is just the one surviving tree.  I also like this photo because of the contrast between the white snow and the dark tree.  I think this is a good photo because it is very clear and not blurry, and you can see alot of detail.  If I could submit a photo in this contest, I would put a picture of the ocean I took over the summer in California because it is in black and white and has good contrast of light and dark.

Touching People

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?

I think that it is a very original concept to have complete strangers pose together touching in someway, it is an akward situation for them, but makes a very unique picture.

2.  What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?

I probably would touch the stranger, but i would hug them because it's not like i am going to die by touching them.

3.  Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.

One unusual photo shoot I would like to go shoot is two completly different animals in the same photo somehow touching each other like a chick and a kitten.

4.  What did you think of the photography, did you think the photos were good? Do you like looking at them?

I think that they are good pictures, you can just feel the akwardness between the strangers, and I don't think i would want to look at them, but they are interesting.

40 Greatest Photos

I chose this photo because i found it interesting how even two days after his owner died, the dog stayed by his side.  I think this is one of the top 40 photos taken because you can tell how close the dog and the owner were by this dog staying at the owner's grave, and so this dog truly was the owner's best friend.
I picked this photo because I like the contrast of the 5 year old girl and the 105 year old women and how they both went through the same traumatic experience and even though their age is so far apart they can relate because they both had to evacuate the building.
I chose this photo because i love the look of surprise and wonderment in this young boy's face after hearing music for the first time. I think this is one of the 40 greatest photos because it shows how amazed this boy is to be hearing for the first time.
