Choice Sheets

I would like to join Newspaper or Yearbook next year because first I think that it would be fun to go out to events and get to take pictures of everything, but also because I think that it would help my writing.  I would like to join Yearbook more than Newspaper because I like taking pictures, but I think that Newspaper would help me get ready for college because I will get extra help with my writing and it would look good on and application.

Lens Flare

http://www.lightstalking.com/lens-flare

1. On this website, i looked at multiple pictures with different types of lens flare and how to either get a creative lens flare or get o lens flare at all. I really liked the pictures on this website because they look so creative and have a lot of light.

2. Somethings that i learned are that if you want to get a good lens flare, you have to make sure that you point the camera towards that sun and that if you want to put a silhouette in the picture, you have to put the camera in manual or you won't get a good clear picture.

 3.

4. I picked this photo because even though it was taken in the present, it looks like it was taken in the past because of the bike and the colors due to the way the lens flare came out.In this shot, the rule of photography that i see mostly in this picture is rule of thirds  where the flare of light is and depth of field. The person who took this picture is Alex.

9.  To reduce lens flare, the most easy and popular way is to use a lens hood, if you do not have one, then you can take off the filters because there is a larger chandce that you will get lens flare with it on.

Cover Designs

1. Early Magazine Covers- The first magazine covers look nothing like the ones we have today some magazines and newspapers even had no covers. They don't have pictures on them at all, just the title of the magazine and a table of contents.  There was also nothing to give away what the articles in the magazine were about.  As time went on though, graphics were starting to become more  popular to be on magazines and eventually people were starting to wonder if they should even put lines and just leave the cover with a picture.

2. The Poster Cover-  These covers have very little words and the picture usually conveys a certain emotion instead of a story inside the magazine.  These covers did not give any hint to what was inside and with no words to tell you, you would just have to guess.  These type of covers are usually found on art and travel magazines now and aren't very popular anymore.

3. Pictures Married to Type-  People use these covers to help the reader be more interested in the subject and want to read more in case the picture alone doesn't intrigue you.  It also helps with the depth of the cover, by putting the models head in front of the title and that helps to make the model look closer.  The lines also inform you more about the contents of the magazine and who took the picture.

4. In the Forest of Words- These magazine covers have become very prominent now on newsstands at the store.  Because of the the words on these covers though, it has caused the model to withdraw and make the words the main part of the cover.  Having the wards the main part causes the reader to be more immersed in the topic of the lines and articles.

How do you put a portrait of Cleopatra, one of history's most famous celebrities, on the cover of National Geographic? Her real face will forever be a mystery, but artist Sam Weber photographed a model who shares Cleopatra's Mediterranean heritage and created a cover image that brings one of history's most alluring figures to life.
I really liked this portrait because all of the other portraits were meant to be of themselves and had their full faces on them. However, in this portrait, it is of a model who wasn't trying to look like herself, but of Cleopatra and her full face was not on the portrait, only the bottom half.

Magazine Tips

1.  Make your cover stand out, try to get the design to go with the subject.
2.  Go to a local grocery store and put your cover on the shelf to see if it disappears or stands out.
3.  If the cover stands out from it's background, don't ruin it by trying to come up with something new.
4.  Get the customer to want to buy it, make it interesting.
5.  Make it easy to quickly look at.
